چکیده

OPPELT, W. W., I. MACINTYRE, AND D. P. RALL. Magnesium exchange between blood and cerebrospinal @id. Am. J. Physiol. 205(s) : 959-962. 1 g63.-Magnesium exchange between plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was studied in dogs using Mg2*C12 and MgClz. Normal CSF/plasma magnesium ratio in this animal is I .34. In face of a plasma magnesium concentration 300-400~~ of normal, the CSF magnesium only rose to a maximum of 2 I yi above control at the <end of 5.5 hr. Intravenously injected Mg2*C1z enters the CSF rapidly, reaching equilibrium within 2-3 hr. The exit rate of magnesium from the CSF has a half time of about 70 min when CSF magnesium levels are close to normal or they are greatly elevated. This rate is not affected by increasing plasma magnesium concentrations. It is concluded that an active transport mechanism is involved in transporting magnesium from blood to CSF, and that diffusion and bulk filtration are responsible for the removal from the CSF.

Evaluation of Magnesium Levels in Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid of Patients with Febrile Convulsion Hospitalized in Bahrami Hospital in Tehran in 2010-2011.

Evaluation of magnesium levels in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with febrile convulsion (FC) hospitalized in Bahrami hospital in Tehran in 2010-2011. In the past, decreased levels of magnesium in serum and CSF of patients with FC were reported. The purpose of this study was to identify the possible role of magnesium in febrile seizures in children. Identifying this condition, we may...

Effects of mild hypothermia therapy on the levels of glutathione in rabbit blood and cerebrospinal fluid after cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Objective(s): The aim of this study wasto investigate the effects of mild hypothermia therapy on oxidative stress injury of rabbit brain tissue after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Materials and Methods: Rabbit models of cardiac arrest were established. After the restoration of spontaneous circulation, 50 rabbits were randomly divided into normothermia and hypothermia groups. Morphine in Plasma and Cerebrospinal Fluid of Patients Addicted to Opiates Undergoing Surgery: High-performance Liquid Chromatography Method

Background: The prevalence of opium addiction among Iranians is considerable. Since endogenous opioid systems may be altered as a consequence of addiction, it is very important to determine the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of morphine in Iranian patients addicted to opiates who will undergo surgery. Methods: We obtained CSF and plasma samples from 50 volunteers with an established...

Calcium, magnesium, and glucose levels in blood and CSF of children with febrile convulsions.

Levels of calcium, magnesium, and glucose were measured in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of children with febrile convulsions. Calcium and magnesium levels were within the normal range and the blood: CSF ratios were similar to those of normal subjects. Hyperglycaemia was a frequent finding and was reflected in raised CSF glucose levels. Blood glucose levels were only transiently raise...

Arachnoid granulations may control heat exchange between intracranial dural sinuses and cerebrospinal fluid

Selective brain cooling is a system in a human that protects the brain from hyperthermia. Cool venous blood from head skin and upper respiratory tract drains into intracranial dural sinuses. In that region, cool blood in the dural sinuses decreases the temperature of the cerebrospinal fluid. Cerebrospinal fluid provides brain cooling. All cortical arteries to the brain pass the cerebrospinal fl...
